Comelec expanded the Constitution on qualifications?

DISQUALIFIED PRESIDENTIAL ASPIRANT SAYS COMELEC “EXPANDED” THE CHARTER: Among the most compelling objections coming from those who were disqualified by the Commission on Elections from running as president and senators in the May 2010 elections are those being made by Born Again Bishop Norberto Lasierna Mercado, an independent presidential aspirant.

In his broadcast in his regular program over BATAS INTERNET RADIO Thursday, December 17, 2009, Mercado is saying the Comelec committed a culpable violation of the Constitution when it disqualified him, because it was imposing a qualification for the presidency not found in the Constitution.

Mercado explained that under Section 2, Art. VII of the Constitution, the only qualifications for the presidency are: natural-born citizenship, registration as a voter, ability to read and write, being at least 40 years of age on the day of the elections, and a residency in the Philippines for at least ten years immediately preceding such election.

But the Comelec appears to have expanded, contrary to the Constitution, these requirements when it ruled that, aside from the qualifications mentioned under Section 2, Art. VII, it also required candidates to have money and resources or political machinery for a nationwide campaign, Mercado added, saying he will bring this matter to the Supreme Court.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND GLOBAL WARMING CAN BE SOLVED ONLY BY RETURNING TO GOD: Here is an unsolicited advice to US President Barack Obama and to President Hu Jintao of the People’s Republic of China: not unless these two world leaders and the others attending the climate change conference in Copenhagen, Denmark realize that there is a Biblical dimension to the problem, nothing is going to come out of it.

To effectively solve this problem, therefore, Obama and Hu must try to take a look at what the Bible says about climate change and global warming, and, side by side with the proferred “scientific” solutions aiming to stop international environment decay, these Biblical admonitions must be addressed and attended to.

The truth is, even long before signs and symptoms of climate change started showing almost everywhere and became a threat to humanity, God already warned us about heat, lack of rain, soil turning to iron, and dust raining down from the heavens, which are exactly what climate change and global warming have brought us.

We can find one of these warnings in Deuteronomy 28:22-25, and even the most cursory reading thereof will tell us that climate change and global warming constitute curses from God, destined to destroy us all as a result of our straying away from Him, and that the only way to lick the problem is for us to return to Him by listening to Him and obeying His commands and decrees once again.

FORTUNATO ABAT: “TO BIRTH A NATION”, PART IV: Former Defense Secretary Fortunato Abat is proposing that all national elective positions be declared vacant, including those in Congress, as a way to establish the “transition government” in the Philippines. Here is a continuation of his “concept paper”:

“After proclaiming the composition, functions and responsibilities of the Transition Government, the following issuances shall be implemented to effect the revolutionary transition: declaring vacant for the duration of the transition all national elective positions including those in Congress except its secretariat that shall continue to codify all laws...

“abolishing COMELEC; reforming the judicial system to make it truly independent; abolishing immunities of concerned officials of the defunct administration and those of the Transition Government;

“allowing national executive offices and LGUs to continue their functions, but considering resigned all incumbent elected barangay, municipal, and provincial officials related within the 3rd civil degree of consanguinity or affinity and serving in the same political constituency, and ensuring that their positions are filled temporarily with PNP officers by the Regional Director of the concerned political constituency...”
More from this concept paper will follow.

DESCENT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: The third “Glorious Mystery” in the Holy Rosary of the Roman Catholic Christians concerns itself about the “descent of the Holy Spirit”. This mystery is no longer a part of the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, but of the Book of Acts.

In its Chapter 2, verses 1 to 41, the Book of Acts tells us that while the disciples of Jesus were gathered in one place on the day of Pentecost, a sound like the blowing a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

Then, the disciples saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them, filling them with the Holy Spirit, enabling them to speak in other tongues and languages. The Jews who saw and heard them speak in their own dialects were amazed.

Some however made fun of them, saying the disciples were simply drunk. Peter then addressed the non-believers, disputing that they were drunk for it was then only nine o’clock in the morning.

He also delivered an impassioned talk about salvation of sinners by repenting and being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, resulting in the conversion of about three thousand people as believers of Jesus.

This event also concretizes the promise of Jesus that He would send the Holy Spirit to those who believe in Him, as promised by the Father in heaven (Luke 24:49).
